…aka, the day I finally beat Donkey Kong Country Returns. Just now. And no one (aka Colin) was home to share this magical moment with me.
It’s been a long, hard road with lots of insults hurled at Donkey, controllers thrown, couch cushions punched, and profanities yelled at the television. But all of that is behind us now, and I can relax and put my super-intense gaming-nerd self to...

Just received my first issue of The Walrus and it couldn’t have arrived with a more apropos cover. The articles were interesting and on topics that appealed to me. I honestly don’t know why I wanted to subscribe to this Canadian publication; I think I read about their design once and liked the idea of reading something other than the New Yorker. Upon opening the magazine I was...

Wearing Bike Helmets →
heartbrakebiker:
A reader responds to an article about a new bike-share program in New York City.
To the Editor:
Re “A Gentle Push for Bikers, Not a Shove” (news article, Oct. 16):
I am thrilled to hear of New York City’s plan to implement a bike-share program. What is disheartening is to hear that someone who is a bicycle shop owner would even think that helmets would “imply that cycling is...

A food-delivery person who couldn’t find a spot on a pole chained his bike...
– The Ethicist - Vicious Cyclist - NYTimes.com (via highheelsandtwowheels)’
I saw this question in the Ethicist as well. It’s a situation most New York riders have been in. Despite my yearning to teach a similar lesson, I always fear the offender would vandalize my bike. Now if they want...

One Downside to Bicycle Commuting: Biker's Lung →
Not sure there is enough research here, but it’s something to consider. Are we really heading in a direction that makes it more dangerous to be active outside than lazy indoors?
The conspiracy theory fan in me wants to believe this research was funded by the automobile cabal to scare us into larger SUVs.

Debunking the Cul-de-Sac →
Found this interesting article on The Atlantic. Whether it’s safer or not, the grid system is characterless. Being a New Yorker I’m used to it, but I am sure there are suburbanites across the country who will cling to their roller-hockey circles. Many from my hometown just upstate.
“Car! Car! C-A-R!”

Sunday, 9/18.
Started my day at 5:30am with a rude awakening from my alarm. Arrived in Prospect Park to meet the other Brooklyn masochists starting the NYC Century. After mile two we already took a wrong turn. Woo.
We eschewed the first rest stop in hopes of grabbing food at Rockaway Taco. Unfortunately we arrived twenty minutes too early and had to push onward. Our first break came at mile...

My favorite part of this movie is the choreographed bike-dance between Lori Loughlin and Bill Allen. “Send Me an Angel” was my ringtone for years until my college roommates threatened me with a blanket party using hand soap and socks.
Just glad a Coppola was involved in this timeless film.

aboutabike: “A few years ago I rode my bike from Providence, RI to San Francisco, CA.” Wha? More info! More tales! Tell us more! haha
This happened years ago.
During the final semester of college I realized I had no concrete plans for my post-university life. Having volunteered some in college I knew of a program called Bike and Build from fellow volunteers. Bike and Build...

I seriously need to wash my bike. I am considering chaining it to the fence outside my building and letting the hurricane have at it. Is this a dumb idea?
Dumber than hell, but I’m fixing to do it anyway.
Mother nature wouldn’t harm a bike, right?

I pass this bike/tank leaving the subway on the days I don’t ride to work. I’ve seen locked to this post for years. I’ve never seen it action. I imagine it can burst through brick walls, break land speed records, and save your dog all before lunch. I’m still not sure someone doesn’t live in it.

I think I need to get this shirt.
I went over my handlebars once and it frightened the shit out of me. A tourist wasn’t paying attention and pulled out in front of me sending my front wheel into a streetcar track. I flipped over and looked up to find an SUV’s grill an inch or two away from my face. No real damage (besides the psychological pain), but I did lose a water bottle when it...

A few years ago I rode my bike from Providence, RI to San Francisco, CA. The trip revived my love for cycling and expensive hobbies.
This blog/tumblr/journal/diary will be my space to explore and share my love of two-wheels.
I also like philosophizing which will occasionally show up here.
I make crude and silly jokes. Expect a few.
